Inspiring Future Designers: Anna Britt Leads a Hands-On Design Workshop at PACE Center for Girls

Last month, Anna Britt visited the PACE Center for Girls in Polk County to lead an interactive lesson on architectural design and space planning. The workshop, titled “Design Your Dream PACE Center,” introduced students to the fundamental concepts architects use when designing educational spaces.

During the lesson, students explored key design principles such as programming, adjacencies, and site analysis. Using trace paper placed over an existing site plan, they created bubble diagrams to plan their ideal school campus. They then brought their concepts to life by creating three-dimensional models with magnetic tiles and LEGO® bricks.

Anna enjoyed spending time with the students and learning about their creative visions for a dream school. Some of her favorite ideas included a hair salon, an outdoor group therapy space adjacent to a garden, a yoga room, a walking track, and even a swimming pool. The students, ranging from middle school to high school age, demonstrated remarkable creativity and thoughtfulness in designing spaces that would make their school both fun and supportive of learning.

In addition to leading the workshop, Anna was featured on the school's “Women in STEAM” bulletin board, which highlights local women working in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics careers. The display helps introduce students to a variety of career paths and showcases role models making an impact in the community.

Through hands-on learning and creative exploration, the workshop encouraged students to think like designers while imagining possibilities for the future of their school. Anna Britt is proud to support the PACE Polk organization.
